The day walk is 16km, 4 to 5 hours and you will gain accent of 500m. The distance and time given here are if you keep to the track, but there are also some routes through the Bush which will add a bit of distance and a lot of time. The most pleasant section is through the area to the north of the falls, bounded to the east and north by the track. This is good going for part of the way, through grass and open forest glade, although there are also some dense patches of bush, and a few bogs which slow progress. After meeting the park track again, continue following it north, over the Honi and Kihoni rivers ( the last water point before the Wanderis camping place) to meet the Wanderis Track, which links the Wanderis gate and the Wanderis Roadhead. There are several places for camping in the area. If you turn right and go downhill for about 500meters, there’s a grassy area on the left , called ‘Cinema’ by the Rangers because the film crew making Gorillas in the Mist camped here. Or you can turn left and go uphill for about one Km until a faint fork branches off right to the Old Quarry, another suitable place for camping. Near the fork , on the left side of the main track, is Wanderis hut, in bad condition but Ok for shelter in a emergency . Non of these campsites have water nearby.
